RID4 Inclement Weather Policy In the event of ongoing or forecasted inclement weather that could delay or suspend a game, RI District 4 officials will decide and make an announcement by 3:30 p.m. on game days if a game is to be rescheduled due to weather. (Only umpires can make a decision to suspend a game in the event of weather.) If one game must be canceled due to weather, all games are canceled to ensure parity amongst teams and their pitching. However, if a game is underway, there could be inclement weather in a town such as Scituate or Foster, but not Smithfield, etc. and the umpires will have to make a decision based upon information available at that time. In the event of game cancellations or suspension(s), games will be played the following day, possibly at a neutral site with lights, if available. Pitcher eligibility will follow Green Book rules for games that are suspended. Should a game be suspended, the Tournament Director, Umpires and Managers of both teams must all agree and document the inning, score, number of outs, strikes, balls, runners (and who) on base, and pitcher and pitch counts. This information will be shared with District staff and be used to resume the game the following day. Note that a game could be suspended in one town, but not another. In the event of two consecutive days of inclement weather, games will be played back-to-back-to-back with an off-day on the fourth day to comply with Little League Green Book rules. (If LLI provides a waiver, teams could play 4 games in a row, but let’s hope it does not get to that.) Lightening Protocol Rhode Island District 4 Little League will follow Little League International’s Lightening Protocolsas it relates to game operations. The Tournament Director for each location is strongly encouraged to download and monitor a lightning strike detector mobile app. |
